For those who are in the market for something to boost a QRP rig's output
cheaply up to 300-400 watts, http://www6.mailordercentral.com/hyelectronics/products.asp?dept=112 True, they are CBish but the DXpedition to Somalia (6O0N) used them. The same company also makes more models, including those that go up to a KW, 10-160 meters. 6O0N: http://www.i2ysb.com/6o0n/equipment.htm John Harper AE5X Portable QRP: http://www.ae5x.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It looks like they're designed for ham use, because there appears to be a switched set of lowpass filters inside. No CBer would pay for this! But they are illegal for sale in the US because they *can* be used for CB. -- 73, Vic, K2VCO Fresno CA http://www.qsl.net/k2vco _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. They are nearly the same width as a K2. They have a PTT & automatic TX switching, yet no preamp. Almost every POS CB amp I've ever seen has a preamp. IMHO with a rig like an Elecraft, a preamp in a linear is just so much gobbly goop. Heck, they even beep in CW to tell you things, like if you've selected the wrong LP filter. Definatley not CB fodder. (IMHO) :-) I checked several vendors world wide and Googled for a bit. The regular 150w model goes for about US $350.00 plus you have to worry about importing issues with U.S. Customs. As far as opinions go, I could find very little written about them aside from the manufacturer's website. I d/l'ed the schematic and users manual and they seem to be well designed and constucted. After doing so much research, I did find one on eBay for $1/Watt. Guess someone out there likes me? Should be here wednesday....... 73's de Ken KG0WX - K2 #4913, XG2, Tenna Dipper. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! One drawback I think is that they don't provide an ALC output, and the
gain varies quite a bit from 10-160m... so you will have to watch your drive levels, especially on SSB.
