20 and 17 rcv low

Tim Herrick
I just noticed yesterday that my receive on 20 and 17 is extremely low. For a while I have been running JT65 so have not had the
sound on. My noise level locally here is quite high and usually around s5 without preamp. On all bands but 20 and 17 it is still s5
but it is s1-2 on those bands. Signals are also proportionally weaker. At first I thought it was conditions with all of the flare we
have been happening but the difference in noise level has me concerned.

Any ideas? Any more info you need?

Re: 20 and 17 rcv low

Matt Zilmer
You didn't say which rig: KX3, K3, K2, etc.

If it's the KX3, you might check the preamp setting for 20 and 17m.
The gain value might be set differently from other bands, or you might
have it zeroed.

It could certainly be some anomaly with the radio, but here (Dallas TX) both 20 and 17 have been VERY (and unusually) quiet in general for the last few days.  More normally noisy today.  Receiver independent ….

Re: 20 and 17 rcv low

Stephen Selberg
What kind of antenna(s) are you using? Different antennas for different
bands? Maybe check the connections. Just shooting from the hip during an
office meeting.
