SOAPBOX
=======

Contacts made with a Ten-Tec Argosy running 5 Watts out, and dipole
antennas.
Keying with Vibroplex Blue Racer and MFJ Memory Keyer.
40 M antenna: straight horizontal dipole up 35 feet
20 M antenna: vertical dipole, feedpoint height 21 ft from ground
Not a member of SOC at the time of the contest
AA4AK

Please send cups, certificates, trophies, Oscars etc as appropriate.
W0SOC was the strongest station most of the time (and the only one
heard on 15m).    Funniest thing was listening to W0SOC trying to
get the exchange from a non-member.  Non member kept sending "100"
but with one extra dash on each of the numbers, W0SOC kept asking
for a repeat, it went on for several minutes.  Made me wonder if
W0SOC was using one of those MFJ decoders or something  :-)   The
non-member should be nominated for SOC membership on the basis of
this non-exchange alone.
Not much activity - I heard N0AAA a couple of times but never when
he was callable.
AA5BT

Below is my log/summary for the September '05 SOC Sprint. Thanks for
continuing the
contest and I hope to have more time to operate next time 'round. And
better cndx's <g>.
AF4LQ

Thanks for the contest.  Good activity.
K0LWV

Equipment: Rig: Elecraft KX1 at 4 watts output
Antenna: Horizontal delta loop (wire), 250 feet length, elevation 50 feet
K4DXU

Equipment used:  Elecraft K1, homebreww sip-n-puff key, Force 12 C3 on
15M & 20M
and a 40M sloper on 40M.
K4KO

Heard you tuning up (W0SOC)and you were quite weak.  Up to S5 when I
called you,
rather surprised at reply.  Worked K7RE a while later and  you were
booming in.
K4KSR

Well, that was interesting.  Deja Vu 2003 SS all over
again.  Everyone was weak with QSB until about 2215Z
or so.  Then everyone was gone and the band was just
hiss.  www.n3kl.org reported an X2.1 class X-ray flare,
and we had tickets to a local play, so I had to leave
just as the first weak, watery signals were re-appearing.
I was surprised at the competence shown by those
members who managed to pull my call and exchange out
on the first try.  Questionable for SOC members to
be that good, isn't it?
K6DGW

More activity this time, great to see it.  Bands had a few dropouts,
but it was still fun as always.
K7RE

This was my first SOC sprint. Even though conditions were awful, I still
had a lot of fun. Thanks to all who answered me. I was using a rig that
I had borrowed from a friend, since I don't have a qrp 80m rig. The rig
was a TenTec Scout. It was a nice rig to operate. My antenna was a G5RV.
I operated the whole 6 hours with long periods in between calls! I will
be there for the next sprint but I hope conditions are better for all of us.
KB3HBD

RST numbers mostly right, but I logged on a regular log page in an
inconsistent manner. I usually sent back what I received, but not
always. I think I was on briefly around the time of the blackout and it
was very strange there for a few moments. Thanks for those who stuck
with me. 73
N0AAA

Couldn't operate as long as I would like but good to hear the SOCs.
N2CQ

It gives me GREAT pleasure to announce that you were the only SOC QSO
for me (W0SOC).....
I had to go out for a few minutes and when I came back the band was FLAT!
Now isn't that in keeping with the NORMAL operating practices of being
SOC???
I just HAD to send this in to you Bob. The DEVIL made me do it....   <g>
VE3BHW

My log is attached.  I was disappointed at the turn out...didn't hear as
many as hoped for.
Operating at my cabin with K1 at 5W into dipole up about 25 feet.
W0UFO

A thoroughly amazing afternoon. I rode my bicycle
up the trail along the Pemigewasset River in Sanbornton.
It had to be one of the most glorious days of the year.
Crystal blue sky and a good breeze. One of those amazing
late summer experiences... well, I set up between two
tall trees and built a dipole with open wire feeders.
I used popsicle sticks for spreaders.
It was about 120 feet long and up about 30 feet.
Used the ATS2 and a ZM2 tuner. Started operating at
4:20 pm and stayed with it for about an hour. Worked
W0VLZ in Iowa. We chewed the rag for 20 minutes!
KD4FLO in North Carolina chatted for 15 minutes, then who
should blast off my earphones but SOC #1 himself!
Just pounding into New Hampshire. and he said my
two watts were S9 in Florida. So I'm not sure what
happened with the solar conditions... but they never
seemed to hit me. I couldn't have had a nicer afternoon.
thanks all. Jim W1PID

Where did the band go all of a sudden? Still had great fun.
Thanks to all for being there.
W1TF

5W, Half Square antenna
W4NJK

Not much activity due bad band conditions.  Maybe next one will be better.
W5KDJ

1 valid Q with N2CQ at 2029Z on 10 Sept 05 {his data was Ken, 559 in NJ,
SOC #402, 5 watts}.  I claim 7 points.  In keeping with SOC standards, I
had forgotten that there was a Sprint, so I was totally unprepared for
the QSO.  I did not have paper handy, though I did have a small Post-It
note with a note on some DX I had worked, leaving enough room to put his
information on it.  Likewise, in true SOC tradition, I did not know the
exchange, but Ken was nice enough to keep coming back to me until I gave
him all the information he needed, or he gave up, one or the other.
Does this qualify me for a certificate, like Honorable Mention or 1st
place in Houston, Texas?
W5MJ

Radio: Elecraft K2 at 5 watts
Antennas: Triband yagi at 60 ft.  Extended double Zepp on 40 m at 50 ft.
Conditions: TERRIBLE!  Solar storm, no signals on 80, 15, or 10 m.
W8TK

The band wasn't real good but I had lots of fun!
