3rd Party SSB Monitor?

Chris Hurlbut
I've been reading about the lack of a monitor function with the SSB board in
the K2.

Is there a 3rd party external "box" that might work?  Not that I work SSB very
often, but I consider audio monitor to be ESSENTIAL!

Anyone know?

RE: 3rd Party SSB Monitor?

Darwin, Keith
There's the good old fashioned way of doing it.  Use a separate receiver.  Maybe a KX-1?

My shack is evolving (no Darwin jokes, please :-) at the moment.  I'm planning on running the output of my rigs (currently 3) into a mixing board that will feed a single audio filter which will feed my headphones.  This way, I can listen to either rig (or both at the same time) and I don't have to be switching things back & forth.  The mixer will also serve as the mic preamp which feeds audio through the outboard EQ and outboard compressor prior to going into the SSB rig.  I'll be able to monitor the mic signal before it goes into the rig as well as hearing it through the rig's MON circuit.

Fun!

This should be easy to build with a single audio integrated circuit.
You will want a pot on both inputs so you can balace the audio. Why the
audio filter? They are not very good.

This might be tricky. I find little written about compression and it
is perhaps simple I don't know. My ATS-3 rig has a AGC integrated chip
in the receiver audio. You might use this as a compressor for
transmitting. But again just an audio amp with lots of output adjustment
should work fine.

Yes you can build that in with ease.

Two rigs + separate antenna for each + listen to both at same time = Space
Diversity reception.

Old fashioned = good idea.

Have fun,
