40 meter receiver not tuning

Roland Whitsitt
Just completed the phase III and thought everything was hunky-dory.  Well almost. . . Seems like 40 meters won't tune around.  The VFO is showing something but I knew something was amiss because I keep hearing the same RTTY signal.  The rest of the bands seem fine.  Just 40.  hmmm
The other problem is the speaker.  It don't worky.  After checking my soldering, I checked the voltage coming out of P5.  Shouldn't I get something there?
Anyhow,  I can finally see the light at the end of the rainbow.  Getting close to having K-2 #3090 start to shine.  I know these problems will be solved eventually.

RE: 40 meter receiver not tuning

Don Wilhelm-3
Roland,

As a sanity check, re-check the voltage at the left end of R30 while tuning
40 meters, it should not be constant.  If it is constant, the VCO is not
tuning.  If you have no tuning on 40 meters but the rest of the bands tune
fine, the most probable component at fault is C71 in the VFO Range selection
area.

If C71 checks out OK, tune to 7000 on the dial and put the K2 frequency
probe into TP1, then do CAL FCTR to see what the frequency reading is - it
should be 11915 kHz and should change when the tuning dial is moved.

Let us know what you find.

On your speaker problem, did you check for AC Voltage or DC voltage from P5?
There will be no DC voltage, but you might detect some AC.   Check to be
certain you have the ground side of the speaker wire correct at all places
(Plug, and external speaker jack).  If you have the ground wore incorrect
you short out the signal and 'the speaker won't work'.
