K2 #5514 is alive and well. After having wonderful experiences with the K1
over the past several years, I finally had the opportunity to devote nearly
every minute of the past 6 days to building the K2 (basic QRP-CW). The rig
went together nicely, passed every test, and worked flawlessly when
completed exceeding specifications. Today, we took the K2 into the
mountains using battery power to make the first QSOs on 40, 20, and
17-meters. The design and operation of the radio is a work of art! Thank
you, Elecraft.
Care of the battery: What is the proper technique to care for the internal
battery? Will the battery recharge when the switch is off and an external
power supply is connected? Should the internal battery switch be left on
during the recharge? Will the battery be overcharged and damaged by leaving
the internal battery switch on at all times with external power applied?
Carrying case: Years ago I purchased a nice case for the K1 from
Mountain-Ops Communications who seem to be out of business. Can someone
recommend a nice protective carrying case for the K2? Is either a Pelican
case or PowerPort Radio Box case a good choice?
Thank you!
