6m preamp

n6wg
Does anyone have a sense of how much longer before
the preamp is released?
I'd like to get two, one for 6m, and one I can mod
for 10m.  I'm not happy with the 10m sensitivity
either.
Thanks and 73

Re: 6m preamp

Dave, G4AON
Bob, I gave up waiting. A 6m external pre-amp is just a pre-amp... I
bought an Advanced Receiver Research P50VDG
(http://www.advancedreceiver.com/) and just "hang it off the back" of my
K3, power comes from the rear phono socket on the K3. It needs a blob of
hot melt glue on the feed through capacitor where you solder the power
lead, but other than that it is just fine. The specification of the
P50VDG may appear to be over the top for a shack pre-amp on 6m, but it
does work well. The gain is not excessive and works just fine with the
K3's attenuator on. It does need the KXV3 interface to bring out the RX
RF in/out. Pressing the "RX ANT" button on the K3 bypasses it.
Background noise with the pre-amp is negligible too. The sensitivity
only just beats my TS480 by a whisker. The MDS improves from -136 dBm
without pre-amp to -146 dBm with the pre-amp in a 400 Hz bandwidth.
