A K2, an MH2 mic, and a digital interface

omehegan
...walk into a bar... Just kidding.

I've had my K2 for almost 2 years now, and in that time I've used it
almost exclusively for PSK31 and occasional forays into CW. I have an
old Yaesu desk mic that I wired up for it, but I never really use it.
I think I'm going to purchase an MH2 hand mic, but I noticed in the
instructions for it that I will need to add a bias resistor to the
microphone jack on the rig. I use a SignaLink USB interface for PSK31,
which connects to the mic jack. Is adding the bias resistor likely to
cause me any difficulty with the interface? Some specs on the
interface are available here: http://www.tigertronics.com/slusbmain.htm

Thanks in advance!

OK "T.S Eliot" (sign with your real name and call please).

That link does not give a schematic, so I cannot give a specific
answer.  If the interface provides a series capacitor to block the DC
then it will work just fine with the microphone bias resistor required
by the Elecraft MH2, but if there is a DC path to ground (through the
transformer) the bias resistor will be a problem.

I think the folks at Tigertronics (and other interfaces) should be more
free with their schematics, but alas, they are not - maybe they are
hiding their details.
