A K3 Variation of SKN

w7aqk
This will probably go over like a lead balloon, but I have a suggestion for
something new/different for New Years Eve.  As most of you know, there is a
long tradition of dragging out the hand keys and doing "Straight Key Night"
(SKN) on New Years Eve.  I frequently drag my hand key out too, and make at
least one or two contacts.  But to be honest with you, using a hand key only
brings back memories of how painful using a hand key can be.

So, here's my thought.  If you don't have anything better to do on New Years
Eve, if you aren't all that hep on using a hand key, and if you have a K3,
how about a little activity on RTTY using CW input with your K3?  I guess we
could do PSK31, but RTTY is easier to spot.

Anybody interested, or is this a dumb idea?

But it's good exercise, Dave, and keeps the old wrist muscles supple
preventing you getting arthritis during advancing age.  I often get out
the old brass pounder for a change from the paddle. Receiving hand sent
Morse is also good practice;  I am sure we are spoilt by the ease of
reading the near prefect code sent by paddles.

A K3 Variation of SKN

Tom Hammond-2
Our radio Club, Mid-MO ARC (Jefferson City MO), is inviting ALL locals
(and spouses) who are either CW ops or who are currently taking one of
our two CW classes to come over to the home QTH of one of our members to
help us celebrate SKN.

We'll have numerous old/new straight keys on display, a station available
for all ops to use, and snacks and soft drinks for all.

The 'event' will run from about 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. local New Years Eve.

We hope to work many Elecrafters during this time.

A variety of calls will be used, but if you receive a QTH of Jefferson
City MO, you'll know it's gonna be one of us operating.

Needless to say, the MMARC heavily(!) promotes the use of that "Ancient
Mode"... CW.

Merry Christmas to all.

WILLIS COOKE
The  5,000 key strong Straight Key Century Club is out to make this the best Straight Key Night ever.  We will be on the air with our regular calls and our third year anniversary special event call K3Y/x.  We support the ARRL SKN but our straight keys and bugs are busy every day and we have a blast.  See our web site for more info!
www.skccgroup.com  Membership is free and we have a great time with our antique keys!
