My K2 has got SSB, the I/O module and the data cable. So to get myself
familiar with digital modes I conected the K2 to a laptop and started experimenting with HRD as a starting point. I found HRD to be a beautifully designed software. Just incredible. I can't wait to try it on my Yaesu FT-857 which has got everything behind some obscure menus hidden somewhere. HRD will provide a magnificient interface for the 857. As for the K2, because HRD can control the TX, I was assuming I could hook up an inexpensive headphones+mike set to the computer and that the computer would/could provide enough pre-amplification to run the K2 from the set, saving me the trouble of having to build a special interface box in between. However, as things turned out, I could neither run the mike from the computer nor get the audio into the headset, unless I plug it into K2 direct. Am I wrong in this assumption or is there a way to do it? The second question relates to PSK31. I tried listening to PSK31 on various frequencies, especially around the default "favourites" in HRD to get myself familiar with what it looks like and even tried sending a CQ message to give it a try but could not hear any signal. I was presuming that there was noone doing PSK31 at that specific moment but then I had this idea that perhaps I needed something more than the simple K2 data cable to run in between the computer and the rig. Am I right in that assumption? 73! de TA2RX ---------------------------------- Bekir Kemal Ataman ArchiMac BBS Sysop & Webmaster <http://www.archimac.org/> _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The KIO2 interface does not include any audio paths at all. You must
provide these paths by connecting the microphone and headphones directly to the transceiver. For PSK31, the audio tones into and out of the transceiver must be connected to the computer soundcard before you can receive and transmit PSK31. Google on PSK31 to see several places you can obtain information on how to hook up the audio between the computer and the transceiver. HRD does control the functions of the K2 (and many other transceivers), but it does not control the audio paths for the transceiver. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > My K2 has got SSB, the I/O module and the data cable.
