A new perspective

Dennis Vavra
HI Tom, Don...
As you know I inflicted critical damage to K2 #06008. I will not relive
this event for you. This was my second attempt at putting together
the K2 since December.. (By the way I think the K2 is a very fine radio,
and I truely envy those who have one). At this point if I were to purchase
a third K2 I believe I would be placing my mental/emotional health at risk,
and even perhaps entering tnto Al Gore territory. A new direction and/or
perspective is needed here. I was looking at your other products on the site,
and am curious about the other rigs...K1 etc..Question: What is the
level of difficulty in contructing the K1 compared to the K2? Also
was curious about the KX1. As a future project I may endevour to
make another attempt on the K2. Until the time comes when I have
acquired a better perspective, and have more finely honed skills, I shall refrain
from another attempt at the K2. Lastly, all fault remains with me. Tom, Don
and others gave me timely advise and encouragement. Amateur Radio
is after all a hobby.  Dennis Vavra,  AD5LY

RE: A new perspective

Darwin, Keith
I think (not sure here) the techniques and needed skills are the same
with the K2 or K1.  The difference is just scale.  The K2 is just more
of the same.  Of course, more means there is more chance to do something
wrong, but I don't think the K1 is any easier (or tougher) to build,
just shorter.

I've not built a K1, only a K2 plus a few accessories.  I found I did a
better job on the K2 than the KPA100 simply because I was scared to
death by the K2 so I worked slowly, READ and FOLLOWED all the
instructions to a "T" and made only 1 mistake (one part in the wrong
place).  With the KPA100 I was a bit more confident and made more
mistakes.  Same with the AF mini-module.  It is small and should have
been a perfect build but lack of attention to detail caused me to put
one part in the wrong place.

You can always hire someone to build it for you.  There is no shame in
that, some of us like to build, some don't.  Either way, we can all
enjoy a great radio.
