AGC Information Please - for the Non-Engineer

k0wa@swbell.net

What makes you think I did not try to educate myself using Google?

Just because I am not an engineering type steeped in mathematics, I still want to understand the function of the parameter.  Yes, I understand the function of AGC and what it is intended to do...and in fact...I did search Google about it as well as looking in the Handbook to refresh my memory.  That gives the researhcer a general sense of what is going on but not specific information.

What I was curious about is the definition of the parameters in more definite terms than what the manual has.  I think the manual is good, but I think there are places it is skimpy explaining the function of the parameter and what was the designer's intent.

Many hams are not engineering types, but are still good operators and builders..  I for one have Liberal Arts background, but I do understand engineering concepts.  There are others who have no formal college education, but know more about electronics than so called engineers do.  So, in the end it is a hobby where I want to learn something, and if I ask a question which seems to be "engineering" stupid...so be it.

Lyle did a great job of filling in the gaps....thank you Lyle.

Flame suit on!

I always have been of the opinion that things I don't understand (like AGC) are "magic".  Makes it easier to live with my limited math skills.  Just like Lee my BS in Psychology and MBA are no help when it comes to electronic theory.  I am still amazed that I was able to complete my K2/100 and that it continues to work well.  I greatly appreciate the support and patience of those here who answer the dumb questions we non-engineer types ask!

Lee, don't feel bad and don't let the "Engineers" fool ya!

Engineers are usually only fluent in a very narrow scope.  Even those really smart guys need to question and listen in order to learn.

I've got degrees in Electronics Engineering  and Radio Engineering, I've got a couple of commercial radio tickets, and an Extra Cleass ticket from the old days. - However,  all of these sheepskins are decades old.  My forte is (was) the design of control and instrumentations systems for liquid metal cooled fast-neutron nuclear reactors.  Not much call for that these days, and certainly not much relevance to radios!

Ask a lot of questions, and ask them often, because I will be reading the responses along with you in hopes that my feeble brain can pick out a few clues as to how my radio works.
