Tom,
A fair amount of signal will blow right through that filter when doing SWL, it might be possible to experiment with strong ham signals as well, just setup a "fake" wide filter in CONFIG and setup the receive EQ to boost all bands and be sure not to transmit. ;-) Use a big speaker or computer/amplified/subwoofer.
If you get the FM filter, it can be used to receive ESSB, AM, and FM no problem, but one of the modes will display an error on the K3 front panel depending on whether you set the CONFIG for FM or AM and which mode you are actually using to transmit.
Keep the PTT down, finish your transmission, then clear the error code after you unkey. I am sure there are unspeakable things happening transmitting AM through that filter purity wise, but I figure if they put those boatanchors on the band, comparatively - it works OK. YMMV Don...

This time receive....
I have filters from 2.7 kHz narrower in my K3. It just
doesn't sound good on AM receive. Isn't there some way to
widen it out on AM without buying AM filters I'll hardly
use?? I have some AM transmitters so I'm not worried about
TX.
I only operate AM a few hours a year.
Thanks, Tom
