Yes, AM transmission would be possible (but not practical) - by pass the
filter on the KSB2 board and unbalance the carrier balance pot - but be
careful not to overdrive the balanced modulator or any of the following
stages - the carrier will be there constantly, so you have to keep the power
output low (I would guess about 4 to 5 watts max).
Reception is a different matter - replace the product detector with an AM
detector and add some AF amplifiers to bring the detector output up to
something usable. This would be a real 'butcher job' on the K2, but it
could be made to work.
As I said - possible, but not practical. Boatanchor AM transmitters and
receivers would be a better choice IMHO - you could find a plate modulated
transmitter and have great sounding AM.
