APF and Normalized Filter Passband Display

I SAVed CW NORM2 to include APF. Now rotating the SHIFT control doesn't
remove the "wings" from the filter passband graphic, as it would without APF.
Thus it isn't possible to tell from the display if the filter is still
normalized to NORM2.

Is this intended?

When APF is engaged, the shift knob no longer shifts the IF/DSP -
it moves (shifts) the audio peak within the IF passband. Thus,
the IF/DSP response display does not change. Note - adjusting
the WIDTH control will change the width of the "center" portion
of the display as the IF/DSP width changes but the "wings" will
remain.

The "Wings" don't change as long as APF is on. If you saved NORM2 with
APF on, recalling NORM2 turns APF on (and displays the wings).

My suggestion to stop this confusion was to have the "wings" set by the WIDTH control. Whereas they will move wider or more narrow depending on the main Width setting. The center peak should ONLY show the width of the actual Audio Peak Filter itself.

When you move the Fc Shift control for the APF it can still travel around like it does now. Nothing would change with that. Later on if or when Wayne adds the ability to widen the Q of the Peak filter, than when you do so you would clearly be able to see the CENTER Peak filter getting larger or smaller to indicate the width of the APF.
This both seems logical to me, and leaves room for upgrades later on.

There's no need for anyone to argue the point whether or not we need the Variable Q regarding this post. I'm only suggesting at this time that the OUTTER "WINGS" move to show the Width of the filter being used around the APF. That's all.

The "wings" are already set at maximum width and the "center" changes
to show the selected DSP width. Shift does not move the DSP "peak"
when APF is engaged and the display reflects that fact.

Oh yes, my mistake, the APF doesn't move with the shift.. like it probably should since it is actually moving within the passband area... So there you go.. CHANGE THAT TOO...
When you move your IF shift, and then turn on the APF the APF indicator defaults to show up right where the SHIFT was set (off center or not), as it should. But it should also move around like the Shift does since it's moving within that passband area.
After all, this is supposed to be a representation icon of the APF, isn't it?

The wings SHOULDN'T be set at Maximum, that was EXACTLY my point.. they should reflect the WIDTH of the filter being used outside of the APF area..
The APF size shouldn't change because that IS fixed at a particular size right now. When and if Wayne adds the Variable Q to the APF that change in the Q size should THEN make the center APF size change... NOT the WIDTH knob as it does now.. They have NO correlation to one another.

The outer Wings don't represent ANYTHING other than a mode.. which can be done with a little display that says APF when it's on... Just like EVERY THING else does when it's on on the K3 (VOX, QSK, ANT 1/2, NOTCH, PRE, NB, NR, FL1-5, ATU, RIT, SPLIT). Just add that one too, if you can find a place for it.

If not, or you're dead set on having those little wings there instead of a little 'APF' indicator, fine, put them there.. but at least represent the IF Width and the APF width separately and properly.. they shouldn't just be combined together, that's a misrepresentation of the feature. And I know how Wayne is set on having correlation to all his designs and their respective displays and or keys they're placed on.

No, it's a reflection of the IF/DSP just like in all other modes,

No, the central area reflects the width of the filter IF/DSP. The
wings only indicate that APF is engaged.

There is no provision for an "APF" indication other than the wings.
The display has fixed icons ... it is not memory mapped. The APF
width is fixed, there is no reason or need to represent it separately.

Well if the area that we see isn't a representation of the APF filter (like most simple minded people would perceive it as, and have already mistaken it for), than I guess Joe is just right again...

Sorry if logic tells me that if I'm using an APF I should be looking at a representation of it, not waiting to move a function of it in order for it to display a number of where it's set.. it's right there on the display.. why can't I just see it move... (yes yes, I know that's not what it IS)

As for the mapping, yes, I know that. And I said "if you can find a place for it". That's why I gave suggestion #2 of the inner and outer bars.

It makes no matter to me either way, I'm just trying to argue logic, which I've found to be a very hard thing to do with engineers. Hi Hi
