A few days ago I learned of a feature of the K2 I was unaware of.
Perhaps there's another one. Is it possible to configure the KAT2 so that it is operational on ANT A, but switches straight through when you select ANT B? I'm aware that I can tune up ANT B into a 50 ohm load. The problem is that ANT B is a remotely tuned antenna, so it won't always be 50 ohms, but the KAT2 needs to stay at it is while RF is sent and the remote tuner does the tuning. If the K2 can't do this, will the K3 be able to? -- Julian, G4ILO G4ILO's Shack: www.g4ilo.com K2 s/n: 392 K3 s/n: ??? www.Ham-Directory.com: the best ham resources on the net _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It CAN be done on the K2. The KAT2 never retunes unless you press the retune
button<g> you'd have to tune your remote AT using key down, but that may not be a hardship. I have a straight key wired up all the time anyhow. I use the diodes trick and a stereo "Y" adapter to have the paddles and key always on-line. You'd tune the ANT2 into a good 50 ohm dummy load (or the other tuner - already tuned - would be better). Then, just remember never to hit the tune button. Not Elegant (sri Eric and Wayne), but certainly functional. Of course, after you accidentally hit tune, tune the remote AT with whatever setting you've got, hit tune again, and you're back in business. That's a very useful reply, Dan. I'd assumed that the K2 would re-tune automatically if the SWR was detected above a certain threshold, like most auto ATUs do. I'd also not thought beyond pressing the TUNE button to generate a tuning carrier, since that's what I do intuitively. But it's certainly a good workaround, if I can keep my fingers away from that TUNE button.
