Adjusting L34 in the K2

Harvey Howell
Hi everyone. I just finished aligning my K2 with Spectrogram and part of it was aligning the I.F stage using L34. The manual says to set the slug 1 turn down from the top and adjust for the largest difference between the internal signal at 7 MHz and the noise around it. Well, I found that the best setting was with the slug all the way down and bottomed out. Has anyone else had their's tune like that? I'm running the radio now and the audio sounds much better even with the DSP on. It also seems very sensitive.

Re: Adjusting L34 in the K2

Harvey:  The seeming peak at the bottom of the slug has a much lower
signal-to-noise.  Go back to the top.  Unfortunately, it is difficult
to find the peak at the top because the response is extremely flat.
The best way to see the peak is by connecting the audio output
(across the speaker) to an analog AC volt meter (low scale setting).
You can see the peak quite clearly with this set up.  But you can
probably see it fairly well using Spectrogram, also.  Anyway, the
peak you want is near the top where the signal-to-noise is best.

best wishes,

dave belsley, w1euy
