Almost Perfect RTTY copy

wa9fvp
I was impressed tonight while copying the WLO news feed on 8,473 KHz..  Using MY K3 and the elecraft utility I received an almost perfect copy.  The signal strength was S5 to S8. and filter was set for AFSK 45bd.

THE BANK RESCUE ATTEMPT CAME AS FRENCH AND BELGIAN OFFICIALS WORKED  TO KEEP THE CROSS-BORDER DEXIA BANK FROM COLLAPSING. THEY ARE  PLANNING TO PUT ITS TROUBLED ASSETS IN A SEPARATE B?BAD BANKB?  ENTITITY TO PROTECT DEPOSITORS FROM LOSING THEIR SAVINGS.    IN A NEW REPORT, THE IMF SAID EUROPEAN LEADERS NEED TO TAKE DECISIVE  ACTION TO SOLVE THE CONTINENT'S DEBT CRISIS, NOT JUST SOLVE WORRIES  OVER A POSSIBLE GREEK DEFAULT. THE INTERNATIONAL FUNDING AGENCY SAID  THAT EUROPE NEEDS TO USE NEW CRISIS MANAGEMENT PROVISIONS IT  APPROVED IN JULY.    BUT THE IMF SAID THE CONTINENT NEEDS TO KEEP MONEY AVAILABLE FOR  ECONOMIC GROWTH, NOT JUST CUT GOVERNMENT SPENDING.     THE AGENCY SAID THE PURSUIT OF DEFICIT TARGETS B?SHOULD NOT COME AT  THE EXPENSEB? OF RISKING A WIDESPREAD RECESSION IN 2012, WHICH BORGES  SAID B?CAN'T BE RULED OUT.B?    INVESTORS REACTED FAVORABLY TO THE NEW PLEDGES OF EUROPEAN ACTION ON  THE DEBT CRISIS. MARKETS IN LONDON, QARIS AND FRANKFURT ALL ADVANCED  SHARPLY ON WEDNESDAY, AFTER FALLING SIGNIFICANTLY EARLIER IN THE  WEEK.    SOURCE: VOICE OF AMERICA  -  PREPARED BY ITTY EDITORIAL SERVICE  NNNN

Hi Jack,

I thought that HF RTTY newsfeeds were gone long ago. Is there much activity
like what you copied these days? And my more curious question, who are such
broadcasts intended for? I used to like listening to the BBC voice
broadcasts on HF but I think they shut them down. Is there much interesting
on HF these days to listen to or decode?

There are two frequencies that I have in memory in my K3 , 8,416..6 and 8473.11.
Both are DATA mode with filters set for 450Hz wide, AFSK A.  WLO switches between
RTTY and SITOR mode “B”.  SITOR mode “B” is the same as AMTOR mode “B”.   When
WLO changes to SITOR, I use my Universal M8000 (receive only) communications
Terminal.  I keep my K3 in RTTY mode and when WLO switches, the K3 is ready to copy
RTTY.

The news feeds are from Voice of America ITTY service
