My girlfriend, myself  and an Aussie exchange student had gone to a Stanford football game...I can still see the look on his face when my girlfriend mentioned that she was "rooting"  for Stanford.

My XLY, daughter, and I went there in 1978 for a two year stint. The XYL
and daughter learned quickly not to "root" for the team.
