Are there any West Michigan hams on the list who own either a K1 or KX1? I'm
considering buying one or the other at Dayton this year but would like to see one in person before the hamfest weekend. I'm in Zeeland (20 miles west of Grand Rapids). I'm in Kalamazoo/Portage with a K2 which you are welcome to see. I know
another K2 owner, but I don't know a local K1 or KX1. My wife and I come up to the Herman Miller company store every so often, I could bring the rig with me. I am sure I am going to buy and build a KX1 after my code improves. What exactly will I do with it? I don't know, but I don't care! Heck, I might buy a K1 too just to have the complete set! I'm so impressed with the quality (and fun) of Elecraft. Was there anything in particular that is holding you back? -Paul KB8NMZ K2 #4818 On Apr 28, 2005, at 8:53 PM, Jim Dolson wrote: > Are there any West Michigan hams on the list who own either a K1 or > KX1? Hi Guys: I live in New York City, but I grew up in Kalamazoo (KN8LOT and K8LOT received in 1958). I built as many Heathkits as my sidewalk-shoveling and lawn-mowing jobs would afford me. To save postage, my Dad would drive me to Benton Harbor to purchase my Heathkits direct from the factory. I have built 2 K2s (fully loaded), a K1 and a KX1, also a 6 meter transverter. All are great fun to build. The K2 is a superior rig, and the KX1 is a superior miniature QRP rig. It surpasses the K1 in performance, in my opinion. I'd recommend the KX1 over the K1 as a first kit. I'd also recommend the internal antenna tuner, the 30M module and the matching mini-paddle. 73 de Brian W3BW -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Paul Bruneau Sent: Friday, April 29, 2005 08:16 To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Any K1's or KX1's in West Michigan? Hi Brian.
Thanks for the feedback on the KX1. That's the one that I want to get (my boys and I are going to start camping a lot more this year) but for me it's a major cash outlay and I want to make sure that the KX1 and I "get along". I'm finishing up my Epiphyte 3 and am building it in a "trail friendly" enclosure (controls on top, battery and tuner in the same case) but I also want to get a rig for operating during the daytime (i.e. the KX1). I've heard from several guys that if the KX1 doesn't work out for me that it's quite easy to sell it for what I bought it for, so there's little risk of taking a loss on it. That will help with my decision.
