Anyone built home brew Q-Basic, or FreeBasic, or VB for K2?

Hey gang,
I built a PIC box to control my other rig and plan on building one for
the K2.
I'll built a prototype on the PC first.
Has anyone built a control program in Q-basic, Freebasic or Visual
basic?

Any tips or hints to pass on?
