I got to work a bit early this morning, checked my email and then looked at
DX Summit to see how the bands were. This is a good substitute when no
nearby radio allows me to listen for the beacons. 20m was wide open with
lots of folks posting who they were working. Numerous spots for VQ9JC on
14.026 caught my attention so I suddenly remembered that I "needed" to run
back out to my truck. Got him on the second try with 20 watts to a HamStick
and he was a true 599 here into Houston.
I agree - the bands have been terrible lately, but there are moments.
