G'day,
For quite a while I've noticed some low level but irritating addition to the audio which I have put down to the KDSP2. So I decided to swap it out for the KAF2. Sure things were sweeter in the audio but I decided to swap again so that I could do the mod to reduce the ringing of AFIL-2. One thing I immediately noticed was that the audio output for the same gain pot setting was much higher with the KDSP2 installed. A quick check of the CF-G setting showed it was still at the default 0.0dB, #1400 has never been short of audio. I slowly reduced the CF-G gain setting to -3.0dB and things improved in the low level irritating addition stakes. Time will tell. The Cn-G remains at 2.0dB and the audio level of the CW signal remains the same with NR on or off. Does anyone else notice that many CW signals these days are somewhat less than T9. I was beginning to believe it was to do with the DSP but a tune up the band would find another similarly strong signal singing pure. OK, most of my operation is by choice on the margins, weak signal and long path stuff, just about everything from here is DX anyway, and I can tell when the signal is suffering propagation effects. JA long and short path at the same time on the grey line and the 30M vertical is almost impossible to copy. Something I am planning to note is the frequency of the odd and the pure just in case it's a synth step boundary thing. It happens on all bands so it isn't the 40M "weird on one frequency" issue, never had it anyway. Yes, I am currently working the WAE contest and hearing a fair number of T6 signals. Dunno if it is "on purpose" or accidental. Some contesters/DXers seem to want their signal to stand out, even if their tone stinks. I think they're misguided, but what do I know?
