BNC Special Connector

I am wondering if there is such a BNC connector that
you can use for a center conductor on a dipole. I have a 50ft length of RG8X that has BNC connectors on either end. Of course i could cut one connector off and just solder the coax to the antenna but before i do that thought I would check. Hi Paul,
Go to the wireman at : http://thewireman.com/connpix6.html Chasis connectors 1342 or 1343 are what I use. This can be connected thru a hole in your center insulator such as a piece of plexiglass or a PVC fitting. Radio Shack has it as 278-105. Why don't you make the dipole 66 feet long (40 meters)? With a center pole you can use it as an inverted vee. Hi Paul:
Another strategy would be to use a Wireman 1171 BNC-F to UHF-M connector and a Wireman 801 dipole center. (Using a pair of Wireman 800 thimbles with the 801 is highly recommended.) You can buy a BNC to banana plug adapter, with connectors like you see on
the back of tuners. Just use a panel mount BNC jack and some scrap plexiglass. I made the exact
same dipole that you describe. Simply drill a hole in the plexiglass for the BNC jack and mount the jack. I also drilled a few holes for antenna strain relief. You can get the BNC jack connector in any Radio Shack. It has solder lugs for soldering the doublets to. Although BNCs are supposedly waterproof if assembled correctly, it's a good idea to cover the connector with liquid electrical tape or similar waterproofing material. If you just strip the ends of the coax, it's even more critical. The problem is that water is pulled into the coax braid by capillary action. It can go quite far in time! The copper braid then corrodes, greatly increasing the attenuation. Personally I wouldn't bother with the connector. It's another possible failure point and extra weight. Though it was originally developed for KT5X to use at a center insulator on his Moxon beams, it should work quite well for a short-duration dipole insulator. Since I cannot include ATTACHMENTS in e-mail sent via this reflector, I will put up the illustration of the insulator on my web site at www.n0ss.net in the "QRP Related Stuff" section (bottom of main page). Just go to the web site and then click on the Quik Link for "QRP Related Files". That'll take you down to the section which contains the file "Packpacker's BNC-Attached-Coax Dipole Center Insulator". There are two images on the PDF. The first one is 2X and shown the BNC connector outline for reference, The 2nd image is 1X. I'll be happy to supply B&W masters if you wish to make your own board and need to have a negative made. How about the $10 Pomona 1296 connector? Or 50ft of twinlead instead
