BNC connector

John-4
Instead of using a balun, can a male BNC to dual binding posts adaptor be used to connect a random length wire and counterpoise to the K1?  I recently purchased a K1 and really like it. 73, John

SURE!  It's even the right way to do it. In a typical battery portable
operation, there's no good reason to use a common mode choke or any form
of "balun."

The only situation in which a good ferrite choke could be useful is when
the rig is somehow earth-referenced, as it could be when used at home
running on mains power, or with the chassis tied to earth ground.  In
that situation, the feedline could pick up noise and couple it to the
antenna, and the choke prevents that.
