Try these guys
http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10221 I have purchased other cables/products from them and I've been very happy. No minimum and if just a few cables, they ship USPS for "dirt cheap." Prices seem "too good to be true," but the stuff is real! de Doug KR2Q ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Help me out here experts. These are described as having 48% aluminum
braid shield. I normally expect to see 95-97% copper. Is this an issue or not? They are network cables, designed to keep enough of the signal inside to get it to the next computer, used a lot before the twisted pair cables became popular. Maybe good enough for patch cords at low power ranges. Can be used but definitely not as good as cables made for high power and good shielding. If you want the best, that's not it. I probably have a fair number of cables of that sort that have worked more or less ok for me at QRP power levels. 73 - Mike WA8BXN -------Original Message------- From: David Christ Date: 4/8/2012 6:06:46 PM To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: Re: [Elecraft] BNC to BNC 50 ohm cable source Help me out here experts. I would expect this to be braid plus foil, for use at VHF/UHF in receiving systems. On the HF bands it would be rather lossy and poorly shielded. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi All,
Cable X-Perts possibly does custom cables. I don't buy from them because their prices are much higher than AES/HRO, but I remember reading that Universal Radio would do custom cable assemblies. Perhaps DX Engineering also. They seem to have everything related to antennas and feedlines. Just my two cents. 73, David KC9EHQ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Yes, it's an issue. Purchasing cables and connectors from monoprice.com is hit and miss. Some of their stuff is quite decent and some stuff is crap. I purchased some cables from them and was shocked when I stripped off the outer jacket and saw the meager braid. Also, some of their audio adapters plain don't work because of poor manufacturing tolerances. Barry N1EU |

Cable X-Perts does indeed make custom cables, with a very wide selection
of coax types and connector varieties. I have used them extensively with my K3/P3, transverters and brick amps, and have found them to be supremely satisfactory.
