Best Ham Group right here

Rockinghorse Winner
Hey, I'm a new comer to the ham thing, still studying for my Tech, and I kind of
stumbled in here, as i was researching possible rigs to buy for my first one.  have to
say, this is the best general ham discussion group i've seen.  The education i've
received the past few weeks reading the digests has  been invaluable.  Together with
the kit I've been building (TecTec, in practice for the K2!), and the license manual
and other material, I  have come a long way since that fateful day when I decided I
wanted to be a radio amateur.  3 Weeks now, and not a single thread on the Iraq war
-- are you people crazy or something?! I hope one day to find the nerve to start a K2
(I just payed you 1400.00, and you want ME to BUILD it too?), but in the meantime,
I'm just leeching off y'all, and learning a hell of a lot.  Later.

Re: Best Ham Group right here

Mark, KJ7BS
Lee,

Welcome!

Amateur radio is a fantastic hobby and you will make friends all over the world and out of this world, too (think International Space Station and Shuttle).

You are correct, the information found here is outstanding.  I believe this is because these people tinker, experiment, design, and build radios.

Elecraft makes the finest commercial kits available today.  You will not be dissappointed.

Thanks to all for replys to my effusive praise of the group. I continue to read most digests from end to end (65 KB each! Not only is the reflector high in quality but quantity as well), while I put together my first station (TenTec Xcvr, dipole, MFJ accessories).  If I can make a lot of contacts with QRP, and the power lines do not give me problems, I may decide to persue QRP full time.

BTW, for I came across this site in the current issue of Wired:

http://factorytoursusa.com/TourDetails.asp?TourID=419&State=AZ&Search=&CategoryID=

And I thought building a K2 was a risky proposition!
