There must be some sweet spot of knowledge that could be briefly reviewed
to help those of us who have never owned or considered a solid state amp
and are old school and not EE.. I just sold my pair of 4-1000's (clean,
linear, hot, noisy, beautiful to own) and now just have the KPA 500. So I
am curious:
1. What are the merits of the chosen power transistors vs. alternates on
market?
2. Why two big power transistors rather than 6 smaller?
3. Have the "advantages" of tube amps been overcome at this point? what are
the specs that illustrate the advantages or equivalency.
Perhaps rather than bogging down the reflector, an article might be offered
that captures the questions and answers of comparison between tubes and
transistors and among the solid state options on the market.
I am very interested in this new, beautiful KPA 1500!
