I'm wondering how many other Elecrafters will be in the CW SS contest this
coming weekend? Would be interested in hearing about your plans, including Elecraft rig, power level, antennas, and your section. I'm planning on the entire 24 hours here from Colorado using my K2 at 5W in QRP division. Plan on mostly 20 and 40 with some 80 at night. Homeowners Association here prohibits outside antennas, but I will be testing their powers of observation with a temporary all band 88 ft doublet fed with open wire line and Elecraft switchable balun. Will be in inverted V configuration with center on a 30 ft. kite pole. Will also put up my Buddipole in a vertical configuration for use on 20 and 40. Look forward to seeing lots of you on the air! 73 . I tried the QRP thing in the past and get tired of trying to reach stations which don't have as nice a receiver as is in the K2 so they can't hear me. Plus I live in kind of a hole and my antenna situation isn't too good so I figure a few extra db of signal is a good thing. The bad thing about 100W is that I come in loud and clear over the subwoofer in our home theater. No movies this weekend. Problem solved. :-) I'll be mostly on 40, 20, and 15 with a multiband dipole. If I get a chance I'm going to temporarily toss an old trap dipole up in the air for 80m. There are usually a few of us from IA on the air but not many so hopefully I can help you out by giving you a new section. My daughter's getting married over the weekend of the SSB contest so this will be my only shot at SS this year. Hi Craig:
I've NEVER (in 45+ years of SSing) been able to make it thru the entire SS without rest... and I'm sure this year'll be no exception. That having been said, I do intend to operate QRP single op and will try to work as many folks as I can... I've found that, when using QRP, it's sheer folly for me to try to CQ during the first 18 hours of the contest.. but S&P is VERY PRODUCTIVE. I can sometimes get a small 'run' going in the latter hours of the contest, when all the big boys have already worked all the strong stations and start listening for the 3rd (and lower) tiers of signals... that's sometimes ME. Good luck, 73, Tom Hammond N0SS At 10:53 AM 11/1/2006, Craig D. Smith wrote: >I'm wondering how many other Elecrafters will be in the CW SS contest this >coming weekend? Craig:
I expect to be on 0500-1200Z on November 5. I'm planning to run my K2 at 5 watts strictly 80 m. I'm not really trying to run up points in the contest. I am working on QRP WAS on 80 m, and I still need a few western states (ND, SD, NV, NE, ID, AK, HI), and SS is a good chance to get them. I'll listen for you on 80 m. 73, Steve AA4AK At 11:53 AM 11/1/2006, Craig D. Smith wrote: >I'm wondering how many other Elecrafters will be in the CW SS contest this >coming weekend? Well, I will be in the contest, but not with the K2 and not running QRP. Sorry, but the OLD Flatland Amateur Radio Transmitting Society will be running all out at W0NO's QTH. Now, I would take the K2 but when you are invited to play...you play with his toys. Lots of fun with a good antenna farm...lots of power....good radios (I would prefer the K2, but I think we'll have an Orion II or a 756PROIIIIIIIII :>)...along with a lots of big antennas.
Good luck to all you K2 enthusiasts....I want to work you all. Look for AB0S this year on CW. Lee - K0WA In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense. Is Common Sense devine? _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
