XV-144

John A. Ross [Ecraft]
Hi all.

I have a XV-144 here which was not built by me. But all parts seem to be in
order.

DIP switches are OK. No issue on power up. LO voltage level seems OK.
Problem is adjusting R13, even at full CCW rotation I cannot get the voltage
below 284mV. I had a look around and it seems the parts are in the right
places.

On my K2 when it powers up I hear some relay clicks, should I hear the same
on the XV-144? A lot of the paths will depend on the relay status and I hear
nothing at start-up from the XV-144. So I am wondering if it has a control
issue first of all.

Any help appreciated

John

I only managed to get in 10 hours this year but I improved my hourly rate
over last year so at least I accomplished something. I worked AA4AK, N4OGW,
K5WA, and N9NE from the Elecraft list.

The K2 worked great with WriteLog. I've had problems in the past where
WriteLog would lose comm with the K2 and I had to reboot one or both to get
it back up. There were no problems like that this time.

A hastily constructed 80m dipole got me through the night with periods of
60/hour. (Starting with a trip to Lowes for #10 wire at 2030Z.) I got
started two hours late because of that, but it was a welcome change from
last year when I was stuck on 40m all night.

Here's another SS report.
I did my fifth best ever (out of 33 SS contests) and the best in the four
years since I've been using the K2, so I'm happy.  Especially since the
K2 was not working right up until last Thursday (needed new diodes in the
PA100 SWR circuit).  I worked N4OGW and K5WA from NZ0R's list.  Before
ARRL's log checking I have about 82K points, and got a lot more of 'em on
80 than I have for years.  It was nice to have 80 in good shape - it's
never actually quiet here (I live right in town) but it was so much
better than usual that it really made the contest a lot more fun.

I family QRM permits, maybe I'll see some of you in the SSB contest in a
couple of weeks.

73,
Bob  KX1E
