CW Type and K-3

Greg Storms-2
I had time last night to work on the problem I was having getting CW
Type to key the K-3.  I was getting the red transmit light but no RF
going out the wire.  VOX was on and the K-3 was not in test mode.  I
found that my difficulty is understanding the PTT-KEY menu selections.
I cycled through each and finally found that the OFF-DTR selection
worked.  The CW Type setup menu is for PTT = RTS and KEY = DTR.  Don't
understand it, but I'm getting the result I was looking for.

I think the CONFIG:PTT-KEY option may be a bit confusing for some - you
need to look at it as an overlay, so if you have it set to "rts-dtr"
(which is what I'd recommend, if you're going with COM-port keying -
it seems to be compatible with most software I've tried), it means:

PTT-KEY
  |   |
  v   v
rts-dtr

So RTS is PTT and DTR is KEY. Configure your software to match.
