It's been a long time since I did any serious CW work. I hit the wall at about 17 wpm 15 years ago and with more kids, etc. never continued. I'm going to get back into CW and besides copying CW on the air I'd like to consider some training tapes/CDs. So - two questions: 1) what training tapes have you used that work well to build speed, and 2) who offers CDs instead of tapes? I think the ability to go from track to track would be great vs. fast forward and reverse on a tape deck. One could even rip a CD and put the contents on a tiny MP3 player and carry it around with you all the time. I've thought about recording on-air QSO's and replaying that as well. Anybody have any decent software for copying off air to disk? 73, Charlie K0CKH _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It produces a wide range of practice text types at a broad range of speeds, allows replay for verification of your accuracy, is the size of cigarette pack, and runs for a long time on a 9 vdc battery. I enjoy carrying one just for fun copy at higher speeds. I wish I had one 25 years ago when I was studying for my commercial radiotelegraph license random character test. I consider it the best single device, by large margin, for off-air Morse practice that I've ever used. 73, Mike / KK5F _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. See http://www.highcriteria.com/ - well worth the $11.95 price if you do any computer based audio recording work - I have used it to convert old audio tapes to CDs as well as record off the air stuff. It will produce audio files in a variety of formats and quality levels. Should you want to get fancy with audio files, try teaming Total Recorder up with Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (good, free audio editor - cross platform too) and the Quintessential Player http://www.quinnware.com/ (a nice free audio player that plays everything except .wma files - it even plays ogg-vorbis format for those who prefer open-source software) _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I'll second this. I have found it the best code learning tool out there and
I have tried them all. Next best is typical QSO words, abbreviations, etc. converted to morse and ripped to a CD. Greg Storms KD7SRC > Another option, at about $70, is the MFJ-418 Morse Tutor. Let try to ask Oscar I7OHP, he made a CD with a course, he was a
professional military op, and sell at just 10 Euro. Try, the email is: [hidden email]. I found it useful, as the G4FON sw that's useful too. They are two different things: one is a CDROM inside the PC, the other is a software: you have to make your choice. I second your advice, but it may be worth mentioning that the commentary in Oscar's course cd is in italian. Actually, there are 2 CDs, one dedicated to higher speeds.
