Can K3 macros be made to repeat?

WX2S
Hi, all,

I'm trying to record a Morse code CQ on my K3, and the recordings aren't coming out right, probably because the Morse decoder is having problems with my fist. There are gaps in the wrong places that I'm not putting there.

So I'd like to set up a macro that can chain or repeat a CQ, the same as a recording. I've gotten a macro to call CQ once, but I can't get it to repeat. Howard K6IA at Elecraft tech support advised me to post to this list. Does anyone know whether this can be done, and if so how?

Thanks and 73,
- Steve WX2S.

To all, thank you for your replies.

I'm aware that I can record and play back CW, but it doesn't work very well. The intercharacter and interword spacing gets messed up. So "CQ CQ" could come out like "TRQ C Q".

That's why I wanted to use a macro instead. Or somehow control the spacing a little better.

Regards,
- Steve WX2S.

Steve,

I just want to make you aware that the SVGA adapter for the P3 will accept a keyboard in case you didn't know it.  The beauty of that is just what you want to do.

Also, there are memories to use to store the various messages you want.  It allows you to see them on screen and make sure that all characters, and their spacing's, are correct.

I don't know if you have a P3.  (There are other ways to do want you want also.)

If you are talking about recording them on the DVR, it should work providing you send clean code.  Using a keyboard produces consistent code.

Dick, thanks. Someone mentioned that the K3 Utility will do what I want, I think -- edit CW memories. Will try it when I get home.

I do have a P3, but haven't used the keyboard adapter because I already have one wireless keyboard that I'm using with my shack computer and I don't want to have two keyboards on my desk.

Re: Can K3 macros be made to repeat?

Cady, Fred
But what do you do after someone answers your perfectly sent CQ? Answer them with less-than perfect CW?
You would be far better to set down and practice sending CW and use the K3's ability to decode your sending and get to where you can send perfect code. To do that, Hold the Text Dec (CWT) key and rotate VFO B to show TX ONLY. Tap CWT. Hold TEST so you aren't transmitting while practicing. I'll be with just a couple hours of practice you'll be sending CW like a pro.
Cheers and 73,
