If I change the CW pitch on my K2, do I then need to realign any of the filters?
Thanks, 73 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Eddy,
The answer is "maybe". If you are changing only by a small amount, then you will not have to realign the filters. If you change the pitch by a goodly amount, then the answer is yes. Look at it this way - if you have the most narrow filter set for a center frequency of 600 Hz and the filter width is 200 Hz, that filter will reproduce a frequency of 500 Hz to 700 Hz and still be within the bandpass (although the extreme frequencies will be on the edge of the filter bandpass). If your change is greater than that range, you will want to re-align the filters. I would suggest that if you are experimenting with your preferred CW pitch, you should not change the filter alignment, but after you settle on a given pitch, then align the filters to center at that pitch. If you have the KAF2 or KDSP2 installed, I would strongly recommend that you adjust the center frequencies for those options to your new chosen CW pitch. For information about setting the filters to your chosen pitch, refer to Part 3 of the K2 Dial Calibration article on my website www.w3fpr.com. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/23/2013 7:08 PM, Eddy wrote: > If I change the CW pitch on my K2, do I then need to realign any of the filters? > > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Yes, if you want to center the new pitch in the filter.

My friend, R9DX is in Madeira now. He has K3 and Buddipole antenna with him
and planned to operate in CQWW SSB this coming weekend. He has put up buddipole and tuned it with AA-530 antenna analyzer to 1: 1 SWR. It all worked well with 100w output on that band. Then he desided to try 28 MHz without retuning antenna. He has switched ATU in and tuned it. He has easily obtained 1 : 1 SWR reading on the radio. Then he tried to transmit and something happened inside. He smelled somethind burning and SWR became 4 :1. He assumed that may be something happened to ATU. So he went back to 15 m, switched ATU off and still got 4:1 SWR on the display. Switching to low power (10W) which should exclude the problems associated with KPA3 produced the same 4:1 SWR. Dowble checking antenna with AA-530 shows perfect SWR on 15 m. Any idea where to look? I suspect it might be SWR bridge but then is there something he can do (like disabling SWR bridge at his own risk) having no spare parts around? 73, Igor UA9CDC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I few years ago, I built a tiny transmitter box using a simple Canned
Crystal Oscillator that runs at 7.385mhz. Pop a 9 volt battery on it and lay the wire lead near the K2 when I’m re-adjusting the filters. I know it’s not the conventional method, and I’ve tried the others. But it’s quick and easy and gives me good results. Have fun with your K2!! :-] N1BBR -- [hidden email] ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I aligned the filters on my K2 for several different pitches and wrote
down the values for each. Then I was able to change pitch fairly quickly, within a minute or two, by dialing in the recorded values. 73, Drew AF2Z On Wed, 23 Oct 2013 16:08:30 -0700 (PDT), you wrote: >If I change the CW pitch on my K2, do I then need to realign any of the filters? > >Thanks, > >73 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
