Hi folks.
Just wondering how you go about charging the Elecraft supplied Lithium Ion batteries for the KX2 from a car (13.8V) supply? Are there recommended chargers for this? The Tenergy charger supplied by Elecraft runs from 100-240V range. You can purchase a small Inverter ( probably least expensive) or Tenergy

I am not sure what kind (size, shape) of Li batteries are in the KX2 but as a caver I use 18650 Li batteries in my lights. I have found the Nitecore D4 intelligent charger that works on both 120 VAC and 13 VDC that does a good job of charging a variety of Li and Ni-cad batteries either at home or one the road.

For further clarification: The Lithium Ion battery packs supplied by
Elecraft are 11.1v, 2.6Ah. I think the Tenergy charger supplied by Elecraft charges at 2000mA 73, Yngvi TF3Y On Sun, Apr 15, 2018 at 2:51 PM, Mike Furrey <[hidden email]> wrote: > I am not sure what kind (size, shape) of Li batteries are in the KX2 but > as a caver I use 18650 Li batteries in my lights. If you don't mind the RF noise they produce, a small DC-AC inverter can be a good solution. Slides 213-214 in http://k9yc.com/KillingRXNoiseVisalia.pdf show a small one that I bought to run a laptop in W6GJB's truck for mobile contesting. This is the smallest model in their Pure Sine Wave series, and it's much quieter than larger models in the same series, which are too noisy use close to antennas. For others who suggested other DC chargers -- all forms of Li batteries can easily be damaged if not charged per their design specs. Unless you know those specs and can be certain to conform to them, stick with the "official" charger. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Thanks Jim.
I'll take a look at that one. I wasn't thinking about mobile operating but the KX2 would run directly off the car battery. Rather, I was thinking of what my possibilities were when I spend days away from an AC outlet..The Samlex inverter you show in your presentation clearly needs a LOT of additional filtering for your setup! Perhaps the folks at Elecraft have a good pointer.I think a mobile charger might be a good addition form some of us. 73, Yngvi TF3Y On Sun, Apr 15, 2018 at 8:18 PM, Jim Brown <[hidden email]> wrote: > On 4/15/2018 7:04 AM, Yngvi (TF3Y) wrote: > >> Are there recommended chargers for this? The filtering is not needed if you're not operating while it's running. :)
