I have a KX1 and the K1 and they are Keepers for me. I
favor the K1 at times because it has more output. I
keep the Elecraft rigs in the Living room by my Lazy
boy chair and the are hooked up to my Gap Challenger
Vertical.
Now I favor the KX1 because of listening to SSB and
Short Wave when there are not CW contacts available.
Usually I take the KX! with my young wife and me to
Fort McHenry <National Park> and clamp a MP1 vert. to
a picnic table.
I have a couple of 30 year old TenTec rigs in the
radio room. But if I had to settle with only KX1 and
K1 I could do it. When you talk about the K2 you are
comparing apples with peaches! And I can understand
you liking the K2 for one rig station. I would like to
have a K2 but I would have to sell the K1 and KX1 and
I do not intend to do that.
The only antennas I have are the G5RV and the Gap and
so the tuners in the Elecraft radios work fine.
However, I do have the Elecraft T1 outboard tuner if I
ever need it. Have not needed it even with the MP1
vertical at the park.
