"I could use a suggestion or two....I live in a very
congested area....my house is 11 foot wide and 25 feet
long...with a yard that is 10 feel deep....I have a
10 by 10 deck on the second floor.
I used to have an endfed wire that ran across the
street to a phone pole...but new houses cut that off.
There is a vent pipe on the back of the house that
sticks up about 5 feet above the roof."
You could try a fishpole vertical with groundplane
type radials. Depending on the frequency and type of
operation (DX versus Local) you do this should work
well for 40 to 10. You could also try a sloper to your
neighbors roof and maybe even manage to tune antenna
on 80. A loop will do OK on the higher bands, but will
basically be a NVIS (radiating straight up on 30 and
40). You could also try a 20M halfsquare for some gain
or phased verticals. If it's not a sloping roof, you
could get some 5 gallon buckets, with pvc or aluminum
tubing set in concrete of even sand as additional
supports for verticals.
So...I could try a loop on my roof(10 x 25 x 10 x 25),
go over my neighbor's roof(20 x 25 x 20 x 25) use the
other neighbor's roof (30 x 25 x 30 x24), or try to
attach a light weight mast to the vent pole and go
"up".
QRN is very bad here. Any and all hints would be
appreciated.
Is the QRN coming from a particular direstion? You may
wish to consider a rotatable Rx Loop to null the
source of the noise out.
