I read here and there about computer control of
the K2. Seems possible with the KSIO2. But with a K2/100 connected to a KAT100 it seems there is no serial port left over for computer control of anything (can't pull mine out now to look due to a project underway on my desk, but that's my recollection). So is there a way to use a computer with this trio of K2 elements? 73, Phil w7ox ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

Phil,
Look at the cable shown in the KAT100 manual page 25. Note that the cable connects to the AUX I/O connector. That is *not* a serial port - only three pins are RS-232, RXD, TXD and Signal Ground. Do not plug a serial cable directly into the K2, it can damage the K2 or the serial port or both. You must use the special cable to connect to the computer or a serial adapter. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/24/2014 3:26 PM, Phil Wheeler wrote: > > But with a K2/100 connected to a KAT100 it seems there is no serial > port left over for computer control of anything (can't pull mine out > now to look due to a project underway on my desk, but that's my > recollection). > > So is there a way to use a computer with this trio of K2 elements? > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |

My K2/100 and KAT100 are working fine with the
specified cables, Don. What is "the special cable to connect to the computer or a serial adapter"? Is it documented in the KPA100 manual? Sorta buried in another project just now, with an antenna distraction too, so I've not looked it up. Just noticed lots of stuff at Elecraft website re computer control of the K2 so I wondered idly how that can be done. 73, Phil On 3/24/14, 12:41 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: > Phil, > > Look at the cable shown in the KAT100 manual > page 25. > Note that the cable connects to the AUX I/O > connector. > That is *not* a serial port - only three pins > are RS-232, RXD, TXD and Signal Ground. > Do not plug a serial cable directly into the K2, > it can damage the K2 or the serial port or > both. Phil,
It is not in the KPA100 manual, but on page 25 of the KAT100 manual. Look at the diagram. Does your present cable have two 'tails' on it? If so, the tail you are currently not using goes to the computer COM port. The usual cable that is constructed for computer use with the KPA100 is extended when the KAT100 is added - the connector with two cables coming from it must connect to the KPA100. 73, Don W3FPR On 3/24/2014 5:06 PM, Phil Wheeler wrote: > My K2/100 and KAT100 are working fine with the specified cables, Don. > > What is "the special cable to connect to the computer or a serial > adapter"?
