Anyone,
I will soon be receiving my K3 and I do have a question. Normally my computer line out connects to my computer speakers. When I get my K3 is there a speaker connection on the K3 that will also output audio out from the computer such as when not using the radio but still using the computer? Or do I have to get a stereo Y connector at the line out connection on the K3? Many thanks in advanced. Nope....And a Y connector doesn't work too well either. The low impedance
speaker output of the K3 will swamp the computer's higher impedance output resulting in weak audio from the computer. A switching arrangement or some kind of mixer would work. Otherwise you will need separate speakers for your K3. I'm using a Logitech THX speaker system for both the PC and K3 and am manually switching between the sources. Dave,
Just connect a stereo cable between the K3 external speaker jack to the soundcard line in and see what happens. I use this arrangement all the time at the workbench (but I use dedicated speakers in the hamshack). How well it works is dependent on your computer and soundcard. You could always plug the external speakers directly into the K3, but I understand that is a bother. 73, Don W3FPR Dave & Jeanne Robertson wrote: > Anyone, > I will soon be receiving my K3 and I do have a question. > > Normally my computer line out connects to my computer speakers. Keep in mind that it's not a good idea to parallel two low impedance audio outputs with a Y connector for the purpose of feeding one high impedance audio input. Better to use an inexpensive Behringer mixer then feed the output of the mixer to an audio amplifier or to powered speakers. However the cheapest approach overall would be a separate pair of inexpensive powered computer speakers. If I remember correctly... The k3 has "stereo" jack for the speakers and you set it up for tip for the main RX and ring is for the 2nd RX. Then again, you can set it up to run two speakers for the audio affects the K3 has. I used a radio shack stereo Y to mono and worked well. Audio is set to LO.
It is all there in the manual. I guess RTFM Lee - K0WA In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply. If you don't have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it. If you can't find any Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense.
