Config Documentation question

K2GN
Does anyone have or know of a way to print the configuration of a K3.(Other
than Screen Prints)

Re: Config Documentation question

Cady, Fred
You can do that with Ham Radio Deluxe.
It's in the Tools -> Extended Menu -> Elecraft. You have to click on
Text export it to a file.
Pretty nice feature. Wish the Utility would do this too.

Cheers and 73,
Fred

Re: Config Documentation question

LA8AW
My wish is a stand alone program that do --all-- the menu
settings/configurations in the K3 like the extended menus in HRD (which
seems to only have a limited number of menu configurations available).

I find it strange that Elecraft doesn't do this in the K3 Utility......as
long as the SW configuration of the K3 is getting quite complex.

Is there any programming gurus out there who take the challenge...?

To take this a step further.  Why not consolidate all the different gear
firmware programs into a single program?  First screen would be to
select the device.

Re: Config Documentation question

Don Wilhelm-4
Brian,

That would be practical for the P3 and K3 because they share a common
RS-232 port, but the KPA500 port must be different (or not connected at
the same time), the KX3 port is different, the XG3 port is different,
and so it goes on and on.

I think having everything batched into one would make operation more
difficult.
As a parallel, the XYL wants to have one remote control - and indeed I
do have a remote that can learn any other remote's commands.  But when I
program it for multiple devices, we cannot easily remember which button
is for which function on which device - so we go back to having multiple
remotes on the coffee table.

Sometimes dedicated applications for one device makes more sense.

"getting quite complex" - yes, I agree that the K3 menu system has been
complex for some time now, but the complexity has not changed recently -
so the phrase"getting" is not applicable IMHO.

If one would peruse the K3 Programmer's Reference, one would find that
most any menu item can be accessed though the serial port.  No magic -
it is just waiting for someone to build the code to do that.  I do not
think it will come from Elecraft (they are busy with other tasks), but
if someone feels the challenge, then you just might come up with a
winner - "K3 configurator"  Either public domain or for purchase as the
author would dictate.

Re: Config Documentation question

K2GN
So I can be safe in saying that no one has a piece of software that will
print the K3 Configuration.
Except HRD! That's a big hunk of code that is going to need updating.

Thank you for all the comments.

WWE can end the thread now.

Not magic but it appears there is no computer friendly API for config items.  Everything appears to be based off of the HMI for the human where you read a display and twist various knobs or press various buttons to make things happen.  The programmer is apparently expected to code in these various sequences of button presses, knob twists, etc (as if a human were doing it) and read the display and parse out the display info.

While it's not difficult, it is time consuming without a computer friendly API.
