I noticed that after i connected the preamp into the back of my K3 that it works fine and things i couldn't hear before now come up out of the noise. It also is an ARR unit. But if i turn on the 2nd RX then i get a very loud frying noise. I have to trun off the external preamp in order to hear anything.. If i run just the internal preamp i don't have that problem. What this does to me is that i can't listen to one receiver in the CW portion of the band and the other receiver in the phone band with the external Preamp at the same time. Not that i do it a lot but times are that it is convenient. What i've been doing as a workaround is just set on rx in the SSB portion and one in the CW portion and swap back and forth with the A/B key. Does anyone else have this problem? Maybe there is something wrong internally in the radio or is this normal?

Larry, I suspect this is due to the difference in filter band width. Since the SSB filter is wider than the CW filter you will hear more band noise through the SSB filter. Try setting the CONFIG:SUB AF Setting to BALANCE. Once you have done that you can use the SUB knob on the front panel to reduce the volume of the SUB by turning it so the pointer is more to the left than to the right. 73, Tom Amateur Radio Operator N5GE ARRL Lifetime Member QCWA Lifetime Member On Fri, 8 Jul 2011 14:12:01 -0400 (EDT), [hidden email] wrote: >I noticed that after i connected the preamp into the back of my K3 that it works fine and things i couldn't hear before now come up out of the noise.
