Connecting RS232 to TS-2000 and a PC and a KPA500

Paul Baldock
Is it possible to connect a PC to the RS232 of the Kenwood TS-2000
and then T of the same cable to send just the data (and gnd) from the
TS-2000 to the KPA-500. The logging program on the PC would do the
polling of the TS-2000.

Thanks

Cliff Frescura
Yes, you can make a "sniffer" that sends data to the KPA500 from the radio.

This is exactly how I used my KPA500 with my TS-940.

Re: Connecting RS232 to TS-2000 and a PC and a KPA500

Jack Brindle-2
As Cliff notes, that is what the SERIAL setting is designed for. If you do this, set RADIO to SERIAL,  the RS232 X setting for the radio’s data rate,  and then set SER POLL to OFF. Setting SER POLL to ON will allow you to use the radio and KPA without the computer.

Remember, the KPA is listening to the data coming FROM the radio. Also, when SER POLL is ON, the KPA expects to talk on the serial port to the radio. It is disconnected from the data line going to the radio when SER POLL is OFF so as not to interfere with the computer.

If you run into any problems, just ask!

KPA500 remote program - Power control

Paul Baldock
In reply to this post by Jack Brindle-2
I am running KPA500 remote program. I am connected via RS232.

If the KPA500 is ON (at the back and at the front) then I can HOST
and CONNECT to the KPA500 and control all functions. When I press the
POWER button on the KPA500 remote program the KPA500 correctly turns
off. However, when I press the remote POWER button again the KPA500
does not turn back on. It seems that the KPA500 RS232 port is not
active when the KP500 is not ON.  Is this correct? If so how do I
turn the power on remotely from the PC?

Thanks

- Paul

KPA1500 manual

Paul Baldock
In reply to this post by Jack Brindle-2
Is there a fairly complete KPA1500 manual on line anywhere? The only
one I have found is on the FCC web site from last August.
