Damage To Microcontroller Socket, K2 Control Board

Dianne & Richard Gething
Good Evening All

I have started construction of my K2 and have accidentally damaged the 40 pin IC socket for the Control board microcontroller IC.

While removing a stray piece of solder from one of the contacts, I bent one of the wiping contacts in the top of the socket.

Is it better to remove and replace the whole socket (it is soldered in place now), or can I bend it back into shape without doing any damage to it. I don't want to cause a long term problem with the IC by leaving a possible bad contact ?

Any thoughts please.

Regards Richard  VK3AGQ

Richard,

Remove the socket and replace it.  While attempting to repair one pin
may work, it can lead to intermittent behavior.

If you do not have good de-soldering tools, attempting to remove it
intact can be difficult.  Break the plastic case apart with diagonal
cutters or whatever tool works and then remove the pins one at a time.
Remember that preserving the board is the most important item.
