Folks,
A moment of your time please. My rotten Terriers made a mad dash for the window when my wife came home. I had K2 #5226 on a TV tray so I could do a Spectragram alignment of the filters. Dog 1, or it may have been a combination of Dog1 and Dog X, but they took the radio off the table. Result, optical encoder trashed. When you turn the radio on you see "ELE" and nothing else. Any idea why it doesn't go further? At least 5226 drew first blood today when I completed the 30m alignment and worked 4U60UN. Mojo still exists. Hi Joe
Sorry to hear about your dog QRM there. I'm just getting started assembling #5225, with the front panel assembly now done. Last unit I built was #12!. I'm going to be watching to see what changes have taken place in the K2 since my first one. It certainly sounds like you need a new optical encoder. Perhaps Elecraft has a way you can test it before deciding you have to order a new one. Good luck. Hope to hear ytou on the air before long. 73, Bob N6WG The Little Station with Atttitude -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Joseph Reed Sent: Friday, December 30, 2005 4:17 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] Darn Dogs Folks, A moment of your time please. I think the important thing here is what kind of terriers were they?
Kerry Blues? Schnauzers? Jack Russell?? Makes a difference here :) Good luck on the rebuild. You will never successfully train a Schnauzer or a Kerry Blue to be calm and sedate. It just ain't gonna happen! Now a Jack Russell? You have a slight chance there ;) 73, Kevin. KD5ONS P. S. I was set up with Ms. P by my sister through her sister. They are terrier crazy. Pat and I had a standard Schnauzer from one of her sisters. The other sister raises and shows Kerry Blues. They are both crazed breeds! I am more of a hound person but was outvoted by all the females :) KJR On Fri, 30 Dec 2005 16:17:27 -0800 (PST), Joseph Reed <[hidden email]> wrote: > Folks, > > A moment of your time please. Joe,
After you deal with the dogs in whatever way is suitable and satisfying to you <G> ... Then order a new optical encoder, and look carefully for what has been jarred loose. I suggest that you will likely find the display problem associated with the front panel. Examine it closely for anything loose or potential breaks in the PC board traces, and examine the solder connections - if any look suspicious, re-solder. Try re-seating the microprocessor on the Control Board - practicing good anti-static measures. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > A moment of your time please. Don,
Thanks for the advice, as far as I can see there is nothing wrong on the front panel other than a bent shaft of the encoder. I also looked at the control board and can't see anything wrong either. Trying to think things through, at power up the processor must go through some power on self test, the fact that I get "ELE" on the display suggests that something fails early in the boot process. Hopefully someone knows what that is. I would love for it to be a test for the presence of the encoder. Anyway, I guess I will be SOL until Tuesday. Bummer because today I was going to enjoy operating, not sniffing lead. Oh well, I might as well salvage what I can of the weekend and start building the options I have in hand. I forgot who asked what kind of Terriers they were - two Cairns and a West Highland White. 73, Joe N9JR Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: Joe, After you deal with the dogs in whatever way is suitable and satisfying to you ... Tom,
I highly doubt that it is a display issue, as I have done a master reset and the display gives me an Info 201 that is clearly readable. Unfortunatly, after the reset and power cycling the radio it gives me the dread "ELE". :( Joe N9JR Tom Althoff <[hidden email]> wrote: Joe - Can you press on the panel either from the front or behind with an insulated poker while the ELE is displayed to see if you can get any more segments to light on the LCD screen? I doubt that the system hung after only printing out ELE of the Elecraft. I suspect the full Elecraft is displayed but the LCD is not showing it. Good luck! Bad dog! 73 de Tom K2TA _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr.
