Dayton - Initial Reconnaissance

dave.wilburn
A friend that went to Dayton this year stopped by the Elecraft booth.
Unfortunately, beyond the K3, he is not familiar with Elecraft, and
cell service inside is not good.  But I did get a text saying they had
these specification sheets out.

(New) Computing Watt Meter
Active Filter & Amp
41 dB HF / VHF Attenuator

Unfortunately I was unable to get a call through and find out what
hardware was on display.

Always seem to be able to get the words, "Can you hear me now?", but
not the important stuff like what is on display.  Oh well, hopefully
some more news trickles in.  73

Re: Dayton - Initial Reconnaissance

Ed, W9EJB
Just returned home from Dayton.  The only new K3 developments as reported by Wayne are the new W2 wattmeter (~$240) and the 2 meter add on for the K3 (K144XV ~$300).  Eric indicated that the K144XV should be available by August.  It will require an upgrade (actually a trade out) of the KXV3 for another $40.  New versions, the KXV3A will only be available in the future. Sorry about the guesses on the prices, they actually had the reall prices listed at the booth.  I just have a bad memory.

I asked (very politely I might add) about the panadapter.  Eric said to expect it by the end of the year.  It will not be cheap because of the integrated color screen.  My sense, is about $700.  Eric said more than the $300 - $500 price range which I guessed at.

Re: Dayton - Initial Reconnaissance

Great stuff.  Thanks for the update.  I wonder if the display is at a
specific size and resolution, so by integrating the screen it is a
"known" element.

I had kinda hoped it would be a box that would plug into the K3, and
then plug into an available screen.  You could put it on a 44" LCD, or
a 20" LCD, what ever your budget was.

Not to poo poo the thing before it is out.  I am very much looking
forward to it regardless of the integrated screen.  In days of old, I
worked on a panoramic receiver that was used by the B-52G/H and I very
much look forward to playing with one again.

I noted (may not be 100% accurate, but should be close):

$229.95 for the W2 kit or $289.95 for factory-assembled.

$299.95 for the K144XV, and $39.95 for the KXV3A upgrade.

I think those are show-special introductory prices, though.

Was any mention made of when these items (maybe even at the Dayton
price) would be available for web site ordering?

Re: Dayton - Initial Reconnaissance

Evert Bakker (PA2KW)

Great news about the K144XV!

I just wonder if the K144XV has the possibility to "separate" the RX input
and TX output and become available at the back panel?

(A lot of VHF Dx-ers use only 1 relay, the one in top of the tower, where
the preamp is installed as well.)

73's, Evert PA2KW

KXV3 vs KXV3A?

Joe Planisky
In reply to this post by Ed, W9EJB
Hmmm.  I wonder if the new KXV3A will gain or lose any capabilities
(besides compatibility with the new 2m module.)  And will it differ in
price compared to the current KXV3?

I've been considering getting a KXV3, and I'm not especially
interested in the new 2m module, so I'm trying to decide whether to
jump now and get the old KXV3, or wait and get the new KXV3A.

If I were you, I'd wait.  You can almost certainly get a KXV3 for free
soon.

Joe,

Sorry, but I have no insight into that question.  Eric did say that only the "A" will be available in the future.  I am not sure if there will be price increase for the new one or if the $40 is the price if bundled with the 2M option.  Guess we will find out early this coming week.

The KXV3A adds the capability to support internal band modeuls for the K3,
such as the new 2 meter module introduced this week.

No capabilities of the KXV3 are lost.
