Deep solar minimum

Kevin Rock
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2009/01apr_deepsolarminimum.htm

The link above leads to an article which describes this solar minimum as being quite deep; the deepest in a century.  Luckily we have great rigs from Elecraft so we can keep working while lesser rigs are sitting idle waiting for better conditions.  Even a feeble burst of solar ions keeps the Kennelly-Heaviside layer in good enough condition to propagate some RF.  One day we may not be at solar minimum but this could last one more year if we want to go for a record ;)  However, the last five solar maximums have been rather high.  This minimum may presage another strong cycle.

Re: Deep Solar Minimum

Dave Agsten
No problem with a deep solar minimum lasting for another year here, even longer. Some folks operate on the low bands, 160 and 80 maybe 40. It's a good time in the cycle for us. When things peak it will be nice if 6 meters opens up. As far as 20 and the other bands go........since we're talking about fish on another topic here, I can't resist.........It's like shooting fish in a barrel. What fun is that?....certainly not much of a challenge. Now's the time to make use of a superior radio. A good bit of that superiotity will be lost when the cycle gets toward the peak
