Desolder tool

George-122
I found the Radio Shack desolder tool # 64-2060 to be quite effective, and it was less than $15, as I recall.  It heats up somewhat slowly, but the tip does get quite hot, when it reaches terminal temp, so keep that in mind.  It uses a rubber bulb for suction, and certainly works better than RS's spring loaded pencil type device, which I have also used.

has anyone figured out some kind of, switchable, motorized replacement for the
rubber bulb? Something like, somehow using an aquarium pump in reverse?
