Re: Dissable AM

Ruben Navarro Huedo-2
it is only a matter of convenience.
If i don't use AM and i don't have AM filters i can save a pulsation in
the mode key each time i cycle from mode to mode.

It is not important.

I see a FM dissable option in the menu.

I was thinking if no filters is selected for AM in the menu. Why can i
select AM?

This was my question.

Only FM mode can be disabled entirely.  See p29 of the Owner's Manual,
rev D9 (DEC 2010).

Re: Dissable AM

Guy, K2AV
There are some uses for AM mode, even if you never listen to a ham or
transmitter sending AM.  To listen for noise, set your bandwidth to
2.7/2.8 and listen on AM.  Listening this way can be very useful.

For instance in a power line noise I have somewhere to my southwest,
there are repeating nulls in it as you tune across 160.  These are
somewhat indicated by S meter in CW or SSB.  But the nulls are very
obvious tuning across the band in AM.  I know where the nulls are, and
I use that in picking a run frequency in a contest.

73, Guy.

All:

Actually, this is a very good question and a good idea!

If the modes are not available to the radio configuration,
why do they appear as selections when you scroll through the
modes?  The panel display should not show the disabled
modes.

It makes reasonable sense from an operator's standpoint that
if you "disable" the modes in the software, that the mode
selections on the front panel display and the selector
scroll points be disabled as well.

Can this be done?

It makes logical sense to me! And it would speed up mode
selection from the front panel.

Re: Dissable AM

George Danner
All:

If you mean that a mode is not enabled for transmit; then I disagree. I do
monitor to modes that I will probably never transmit especially if it means
spending the funds to purchase filter(s).
At some point the config. menu will become way too bloated to be effective;
we might even be there already from a recent posting requesting full
information on the menu options. Scrolling one more position is not an issue
for at least one of us!

My 2 cents!
