Just a reminder that the ECN/30 will be meeting Thursday at 8E/7C/6M/5P (0100
UTC Friday). I've moved to a later hour to accomodate for the later local sunset (propagation). It will have the added advantage of allowing those who live in the west to check in after they get home from work. We will try to keep this 0100z time slot through the DST time shift this weekend - so next week, it will be Thursday 9E/8C/7M/6P (0100 UTC Friday). Due to the low power nature of the net (and net control), our frequency is flexible. We will meet on 10.1x2.7 or 10.1x7.2 - depending on QRM. If we get bumped off the frequency we started on, look for net control calling on another. Turn out has been pretty low for the last month. Hopefully with the later hour, we'll have more folks check in. 73, Daniel AA0NI Oklahoma City K2 #3421 _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I'm looking for designs for an RF amp for my K2. Can anyone point me to
a design? I plan to use it for CW only, 40 meters only, and roughly 75 watts output. Solid state preferred but not required. I'd like to keep it external to my K2 so I can keep the K2 in its "QRP" flavor. I was wondering of anyone has built the amp shown at the link below. It had my interest for a while until it's power requirements were pointed out to me as being a drawback, price-wise.

Both of these are designed to run from 12 to 14V DC at maybe something like 22A, so cannot understand the power supply problem. There are suitable power supplies available relatively cheaply for this in abundance. Believe the classic design AN762 which is the basis of the linear amplifier in most HF 100W transmitters is featured in ARRL publications and is described in detail in the RSGB Radio Communications handbook. Hi,
I bought a 180W version of the AN762 from Communication Concepts for my K2. I also bought the filter set for it. It works like a dream! I can now easily disconnect my K2 from it and go QRP. YES the company is a BIT slow on responding to e-mails. So call them! Or FAX them! They are there and yes they ship overseas. I live in Denmark. Now I also bought the EB104 600W PA from them so that is the next project. If you only need ~75W then I would recommend the AN762 100W version. It is a bit better than the EB63 on its biasing scheme. But note that you ONLY get a PCB and components (torroids pre-wound!) and a piece of paper saying "Construction Hints". Then you are on your own. You need to supply your own RTX-switch, filters, heat sink etc. Good luck! 73 de Michael OZ8AGB _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. (wow). Maybe they read this reflector. Did You purchased also the LP filters for the six bands? Thanks for answer! I'm in the process of aligning the transmitter on my K2 #4778.
The manual says to peak pairs of slug tuned coils and variable capacitors on the various bands, with the power control set to 2.0 watts. There is no peak as I dial the slug tuned coils around -- just an increased power in one direction, and decreased power in the other, until the slug tuned coil either tops out or bottoms out. Even with the control set to 2.0 watts, the indicated power (on the K2 internal power meter) shows 7 watts and climbing. Any ideas? Also, my K2 keeps entering play/record message mode all on its own. I think it's just a bad switch, or possibly a stray piece of solder or other metal is shorting the control lines somewhere between the switch and the inputs to the CPU. I'm not too worried about that one... should be easy to trace. But the tx alignment problem has me puzzled. Thanks for any suggestions, --Andrew, NV1B _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. You have to leave tune mode, and reenter tune mode occasionally to get the
power to reset. I believe the book says 10 seconds for thermal reasons. Anyhow, just iterate between the two, going against a stop if that's the max, until you get the best you can get. It probably won't be against either stop on either slug. It's the allowing the K2 to remeasure the power, and iterating back and forth that get the mojo out of the screwdriver in inside the K2 where it belongs. Hi
Re-adjusting the power control knob a little will also make the K2 re-measure the power out. As you are adjusting the slug in the coil just move the power control and the power will return back to the 2 watt level. This is faster and easier than going out of then and back into tune. Andrew,
Most of the bandpass filters tune properly with the inductor slugs between 1 1/2 to 4 turns into the coil. If your adjustments are so far out of range that the slugs are either at the top or bottomed out you have a problem. The problem is either 1) The capacitors in the bandpass filter have incorrect values, or 2) the frequency is not really what it is supposed to be (VFO/Mixer problem). If you were able to find a peak during the receive bandpass filter tuning, the transmit tuning is only a refinement of that receiver tuning and you should find the peak on transmit less than a half turn away. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I'm in the process of aligning the transmitter on my K2 #4778. > > The manual says to peak pairs of slug tuned coils and variable > capacitors on the various bands, with the power control set to 2.0 > watts. > > There is no peak as I dial the slug tuned coils around -- just an > increased power in one direction, and decreased power in the other, > until the slug tuned coil either tops out or bottoms out.
