My first EQP which demonstrated to me the excellent capabilities of the
K1 with my meagre 20M and 40M dipoles in a limited space back garden
gave me DX contacts into Maine, Newfoundland and the other side of the
Urals in Asia (4,500miles). Calling CQ EQP fell on deaf ears in Europe
except Rolf, OH6KXL K2 #24759, so I made use of a BERU (Commonwealth CW
bash) contest and pounced on a few operators who were mainly around
before the start time of EQP, but this made the effort worth while.
Conditions were not brilliant so I concentrated on a contact per country
and used only 20 and 40M.
Elecraft K1, #1947, 40M & 20M dipole antennas and a straight key.
